WHAT AN AMAZING YEAR!
As you can see, Bowen's Hope was able to collect donations for cleaning supplies for the PCH dialysis families. These supplies help decrease germs and infections which keeps the kids out of the hospital! Supplies such as paper towels, clorox bleach spray/wipes, hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes and hand soap are all items that greatly benefit these families.
Decorating the dialysis was so much fun! We were only able to decorate the unit once this past year, but are hoping to find volunteers who would like to decorate the dialysis unit this spring to brighten up the kids day! Decorating the unit makes it more fun for the kids while they are receiving their treatments.
Every October kids who are approved by their doctor are able to go to Camp Maska, a camp for the kidney kids to go have fun and just be a kid. All the kids receive their dialysis treatments before going to camp and are monitored by a doctor while there. We were able to go to Camp Maska this year and hang out with the kids while joining in their fun activities such as zip-lining, cooking, crafts, laser tag and most fun of all attending their dance! Bowen's Hope was able to put together super star goodie bags for the Hollywood themed camp this year. They were filled with needed items for camp such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, tissues, hand sanitizer, and hollywood dress up items.
This past Christmas, Bowen's Hope was able to connect 13 dialysis families from PCH to be sponsored for the Christmas season. We obtained families wish lists from Josie the social worker who works closely with the dialysis families. Once wish lists were obtained we were able to get families sponsored. Gifts were bought, wrapped, and delivered to the hospital before Christmas. Sponsoring a family is an invaluable gift one can give. By sponsoring a family it not only lightens a families burden, it gives them more time with their children, and gives them HOPE. Below is a letter from a family who was sponsored this Christmas Holiday.
Josie,Thank you so much for signing us up to receive these gifts. The kids really enjoyed them. Please forward these pictures and comments to the Bowens Hope foundation with our sincere appreciation.
Dear Bowen’s Hope Foundation,
Please thank the Meyer and Sheppard families for their generous donations to our family this Christmas. Time and money are precious commodities for every family, but more so when you have a child who needs dialysis treatments three times per week, and the myriad of other doctor appointments needed for the additional medical conditions frequently found in a child with kidney failure. Since Dominic came into our lives, it seems we spend each moment wrapped up in work and caring for him. There’s little time for fun and celebrations, because preparing for celebrations takes more of the precious little time and money we have. Your generous gifts provided our family with more of both and gave us a chance to take a breath and enjoy Christmas. I wish you could have seen Dominic’s face when he opened the Ninja Turtle socks or heard him sing the SpongeBob theme song when he opened the coloring book. Thank you for your kindness, your love and your prayers on our family’s behalf. Thank you for reminding us what the spirit of Christmas is about and for giving us more time to enjoy our precious little boy. God bless you.
