It was hard living in a place we were preparing to leave and and at the same time, trying to prepare for the place we were going to go. There were so many tasks to complete before leaving that at times felt like a whirlwind trying to accomplish it all.
One of the biggest tasks we had to do was downsize to a house that was half the size of the house we lived in. We had to decide what was going to stay behind in storage, what were we giving away, and what were we sending to Alaska, that far away place. There were post it notes all over the house, labeling everything stay, give away, or Alaska. It was interesting that our stuff was broken down into these three categories.
It got me thinking of all the things that were being left behind. It didn't really bother me so much to leave behind the house we had just built, or all the things we had given away or in storage. I loved my life in Arizona. What I was going to miss the most were the relationships we had made, the life we had built for the past 9 years, our dog we had to leave behind and the beautiful landscapes and weather. Those were the adjustments we had to to make, for there to be space in our new life, because there wasn't room for all of the stuff from our previous life.
One thing I did not want to leave behind, was our dog, Tyson. He has been apart of our family for 13 years and he was just too old to make the move. He is fine, living a happy life with our in-laws, but it was hard to say goodbye to him. He was something I did not want to leave behind. Even though there were somethings I knew had to stay, it still was still hard to say goodbye.
Is there something in your life that you had to say goodbye to, to make room for the new life you were going to? It makes me think that I should categorize everything in my life the same way; stay, give away, or Alaska, to make room for that far away place, in order to experience new opportunities. I am glad we are here, even though it is far away from everything else we knew. I am excited to learn the ways of this new land, to experience a new kind of life, that makes room for what matters most. Are there things in your life, that need to be moved around and put into the category stay or give away, in order to open the door to experience what is waiting for you in that far away place?
